Why does a treasure cache contain 1,000 copper pieces?
Because the designer wanted to give you 10 XP, but he wanted you to pay for it by carrying 1000 coins around in weight.
When I ran 5e, I felt like I was fighting the system itself in order to run any kind of campaign through it, as characters had too many spec...
Pretty sure copper is worth more in the real world than in D&D.
